Today was the first rehearsal in ages with my old band Straight A’s, with all original members except for singer Niels. We started out 6 years ago as a bunch of goofs that knew each other from an online forum, and we figured we might as well hop on the old school hardcore bandwagon, a very popular genre at the time, just to have a laugh. Little did we know that people would actually enjoy the music that we wrote and recorded during a weekend of having fun and drinking beers. What followed were 2 UK tours, numerous shows in Holland and Belgium, and a lot of temporary bandmembers, as the original members were scattered around the Netherlands and pretty active in a lot of other bands.
Early 2008, i left the band and not much later Straight A’s disbanded, with former members moving on to form Cornered.
I experienced a few of the best moments in my life getting this band together and playing shows with the multitude of bandmembers that we had. Getting back together today with original members Hidde and Bas (whom i hadn’t played with since 2007 and 2008), having a lot of laughs and playing those old songs was just priceless! In all honesty: i still don’t really understand why people were so siked over this band. It’s just plain loud, crappy and trashy hardcore… Anyhow, we’re playing a one-off reunion show on june 1st in Utrecht, to support the new release of our friends This Routine Is Hell and i’m looking forward to a great time with some old friends!
